Work Hours: Standard College hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm; Additional hours, including evening and weekend hours, may be needed to meet the needs of the department.
General Summary: This position is responsible for the college-wide leadership
and supervision of the libraries, which includes all personnel management,
budgeting, collection development and maintenance, assessment, instructional
services, public and student services, and academic oversight of the unit.
Coordinates with other departments to ensure the libraries are meeting the
needs of the CCAC community in terms of facilities, security, information
technology, student accounts, student life, and the offices of the deans of
students. The Director of Library Services will be passionate about student
success and will provide visionary leadership to advance teaching and learning
through the college’s libraries, including strategic planning, assessment,
resource development, and personnel growth and development. The Director will
develop and maintain positive relationships and strategic partnerships with
college constituencies across all locations as well as external organizations.
Requirements: Education:
A Master’s degree (MLS or MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution is required (second Master’s degree or Doctorate is preferred).
Experience:
- A minimum of four years of experience in academic libraries and learning services operations. Community college experience is preferred.
- Experience with the current and emerging proponent of relevant technologies.
- Knowledge of library systems and technology; higher education budget procedures; collection development strategies; accreditation reporting and assessment.
- Experience in a union environment and in a multi-site operation are preferred.
- Experience in long-range planning, strategic planning, and outcome assessment.
- Ability to advocate for support of library and learning resource initiatives – including archives with an energetic vision.
- Ability to communicate the needs and goals of the library to a broader academic community.
- Evidence of ability to work successfully with a broad variety of constituents, administrators, staff, and community-based groups with a strong commitment to students.
Duties: - Provides leadership in the development of library services focused on facilitating student success in a diverse community.
- Advocates for the continuing development and promotion of the library with college administration, staff, and external partners.
- Oversees the development and assessment of long-range and strategic plans for library services in all locations, including online. This includes traveling to the campuses for supervision of library staff and librarians.
- Identifies innovative technologies and innovations relevant to the library services objectives and collaborates with college administration, learning resources, and library staff to shape future advancements.
- Participates in the development, management, assessment, and administration of library annual plans and budgets, including for all electronic resources.
- Provides leadership to librarians and staff in resolving daily problems and meeting goals and objectives.
- Champions access to and use of open educational resources.
- Oversees the institution's archives and records retention system.
- Develops, recommends, and implements standardized procedures for the library.
- Prepares relevant reports, studies, statistics, public relations materials, and correspondence for the library.
- Serves as the college's compliance champion for copyright laws.
- Coordinates the hiring of librarians and support staff.
- Leads efforts to identify and pursue relevant grant opportunities.
- Performs other related duties as required or as assigned.
