General Summary:  The primary responsibilities of the faculty are to teach and to develop the curriculum. To meet these responsibilities, faculty must remain knowledgeable about advances in their disciplines, in learning theory, and in pedagogy. Faculty portfolios will include contributions and program development and show evidence of ongoing professional development.

Position Summary: This position will teach a minimum of 9 credits per semester in aviation or related disciplines if qualified and will work to incorporate and utilize additional technology and simulator equipment in courses assigned. In addition to teaching faculty duties and responsibilities, this position will be responsible for a maximum amount of time equivalent to 6 credits per semester assisting with expanding the aviation programs across multiple modalities, cultivating industry and community partnerships, supporting dual-enrollment opportunities, and providing simulator maintenance, tutoring, and lab facilitation. Additionally, this position will assist with bridging the aviation program between a traditional academic and modern workforce design, and other duties as assigned. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, facilitating tours, coordinating visits, attending open houses, and assisting with tracking student progress towards their FAA certifications.

Requirements:  

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred; one year of teaching experience as a flight and/or ground instructor with active FAA Certified Flight Instructor Certificate or FAA Advanced Ground Instructor Certificate.

 

 

Duties:  

FACULTY DUTIES:

1.       The primary responsibilities of faculty are to teach and to develop the curriculum. Prepare and provide students with course outlines that support learning objectives set forth in the course syllabus. Develop and measure learning outcomes. Assess student performance and maintain grade records.

2.      Create an effective learning environment through the use of a variety of instructional methods.

  1. Collaborate in the development and continued assessment of learning outcomes for use in program reviews and curriculum revision.
  2. Work with other program and/or discipline faculty to complete scheduled program reviews and to use the findings to revise the curriculum.
  3. Participate in appropriate professional development activities to assure currency in both discipline, knowledge and instructional methods.
  4. Participate in department/discipline, division, campus, and college meetings and committees.
  5. Participate in college projects, surveys, studies, and reports that relate to the discipline or program.
  6. Collaborate in the development of program and/or discipline promotional materials.
  7. Maintain five office hours each week.
  8. Support the college’s goals.
  9. Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

OTHER RELATED DUTIES:

  • Works closely with the aviation coordinator, department head, and appropriate academic division administrator(s) to fulfill additional responsibilities as stated in the position summary, such as cultivating industry and community partnerships.
  •  Flight simulator maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Supervises flight simulator lab space and facilitates tutoring opportunities for students.
  • Incorporates and utilizes technology in teaching, curriculum development and design, and tracking of student progress towards FAA certifications.
  • Develops and expands curriculum across multiple teaching modalities.
  • Assists with developing and supporting dual-enrollment opportunities with local and regional high schools.
  • Assists with building pathways for students between credit and non-credit divisions.
  • Assists with facilitating tours, coordinating visits, attending open houses, and representing the aviation discipline at various internal and external events as requested.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

The faculty duties and other duties of this position outlined above are representative of a regular full-time faculty workload, for purposes of the AFT CBA. No additional compensation will be provided for any additional duties assigned related to the scope of this position. Non-credit teaching is compensated separately through the workforce division.


Clearances:  Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
